My passenger back rest arrived a few days ago and I had time today to assemble it. The 1/4" cap/hex screws had a very hard time going into the threads on the rack. It could get the screw about 1/10th of the way in, but it wouldn't budge after that. The cause? There was a lot of heavy paint in the threaded areas of the brace for the back rest. A quick trip to the home improvement store, $8.00 later, I had a 1/4" 20-pitch tap. I threaded the tap into the threaded areas and ran it all the way in - turn by turn. I then backed out the tap and completed the same process on the next 3 holes. After that was done, I pulled out the blue LocTite and assembled the back rest in about 15 minutes. A 1/4" 20 pitch tap tool for $8.00 will save you some big headaches when it comes to assembly. With it being all assembled, I'm very happy with the purchase and quality of the back rest. If I were to have purchased this from Harley, it would have easily been double the cost, but I feel the quality is as good or better than those I've purchased from Harley. But, with the Harley back rests that I've assembled in the past, there was never globs of paint in the threaded areas. I gave it 4 stars because of the issues in assembly. If it were not for those issues and having to buy a thread tap, I would give this a solid 5 stars.
